  • Daily Tasks and Journaling: Get daily self-care tasks and space to jot down thoughts, making reflection effortless.

šŸ”“ Challenges With Finch App

After some time, I did grow tired of some of the goals I set up, and also felt it was a bit too easy to simply check the boxes at times.

  • Not integrated to my calendar: I like using Todoist because it’s simple interface provides me a way to organize all my to do lists and integrate them with my Google calendar.
  • Simplistic meditations: I prefer Insight Timer for my meditations because I like specific meditation types and the additional sound effects I get with Insight Timer Pro.
  • Less appealing if friends aren’t on it: You need the paid version to connect and encourage your friends, if they fall off on their usage of the app, you may backslide as well.
  • Tired of accessorizing: It’s fun at first to grow your bird to an adult and travel and decorate their nest, but the vast number of options in colors and styles loses novelty.

Setting Up Your Self-Care Life-Hack Routine

When it comes to self-care, a tailored approach is key. Just like choosing the perfect outfit for a day out, your self-care routine should fit your unique lifestyle and preferences. Letā€™s dive into hacking your self-care schedule!

Prioritize Your Goals

In order to establish repeatable habits, you should start small and work your way up to bigger lifestyle changes. For that reason, I recommend that you prioritize one aspect of self-care to start with and build a journey around developing those habits. Depending on your mental state you could start with simple actions like stopping to take three deep breaths once a day, or drinking a full glass of water. Each small act of self-love helps!

  • Select an Area of Focus: One aspect of yourself you’d like to make improvement on, not out of judgement but out of a desire to care for yourself better.
  • Reflect on what it takes to be the kind of person who does that. State this as an “I am” statement which describes the kind of person you want to be as if it’s already happened. It’s a decision you make and then start taking action.
  • Break up the actions that kind of person does and how frequently.

For example:

Then take time to think about how you can practice daily being the type of person you envision.

Often, people get stuck at this part, because it requires imagination and putting yourself in a creation mindset. If you’re not sure what your goals are, or how to get started, consider booking a session with a coach or setting aside more time for self-reflection and journaling.

Personalize Your Self-Care Schedule

You may not have a specific self-improvement goal but know you need to take more time for yourself. Think about what makes you happy and relaxed. For me, itā€™s a mix of walking in nature, baking glorious food, and drawing and writing. Start by asking yourself questions like:

  • What activities recharge my batteries?
  • What times of the day do I feel best?
  • How can I blend these activities seamlessly into my daily life?

Creating a schedule that fits your rhythm can transform self-care from a chore to a cherished part of your day. Finch has a repository of self-care activities that are a great place to start with when choosing some to be a part of your new schedule. My blog also has a wealth of information on self-care you can check out.

Prompts and Ideas for Gratitude Practice

So, what should you write about? Here are some prompts to get the pen moving:

  • “Good things are always happening to me.”
  • What made you smile today?
  • Who in your life are you grateful for and why?
  • List three simple pleasures you experienced this week.

Remember, no entry is too small. Whether itā€™s a hot cup of coffee or a friendly smile from a stranger, each moment counts! Happy journaling! šŸ˜Š

Self-Reflection Exercises

I like to keep a journal where I jot down my thoughts and experiences from the day. Seriously, itā€™s like therapy but cheaper! Here are some exercises you can try:

  • Daily Journaling: Write about your feelings and experiences every day for a week.
  • Weekly Reflection: Summarize what went well and what didnā€™t. Celebrate the wins!
  • Letter to Future Self: Write a letter to your future self about your aspirations.

Practicing Self-Compassion

Practicing self-compassion is like giving yourself a warm, fuzzy hug on a chilly day. It encourages us to treat ourselves with the same kindness we so readily offer to others. Let’s be honestā€”how many times have we berated ourselves over a small mistake? Self-compassion helps counteract that cycle of self-criticism.

Building self-compassion is like planting a seed; it requires nurturing and care. Hereā€™s how you can grow that lovely self-compassion tree:

  • Talk to Yourself Like a Friend: I often pause and ask myself what I would say to a friend in my situation. Spoiler alert: itā€™s always nicer than the criticism I dish out!
  • Mother Yourself:Ā Write down moments when you felt inadequate and respond to them with love and kindness. Hugging yourself, yoga, and things like EFT tapping can assist you in comforting yourself during difficult times.

Give these practices a whirl, and you might just find that being gentle with yourself feels like the best self-care hack ever!

Celebrating Your Self-Care Journey

As I bask in the glow of my self-care journey, I can’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment. Reflecting on how far we’ve come is crucial! Hereā€™s how I like to look back and marvel at my progress:

  • Journaling: I jot down little victories, like those mindful moments when I actually remembered to breathe instead of hyperventilating over deadlines.
  • Reading Old Journal Entries: Set aside a day where I compare how I felt at the start versus now. Spoiler: Iā€™ve learned a lot!
  • Celebrate Milestones: Whether itā€™s sticking to a meditation routine for a month or cooking a healthy meal, I take time to recognize these achievements. I’ve even given myself an encouraging greeting card once, bought myself flowers, or used my Co Star app to send myself “notes in the ether.”

Rewards and Self-Care Treats

Now, whatā€™s self-care without some pampering? Rewarding yourself is key! Hereā€™s a fun way to treat yourself:

  • Indulgent Skin and Body Care: Bubbles, masks, shower steamers. Whatever indulgent thing you had your eye set on. Check out my blog post on suggestions for How to Smell Like a Swamp Witch, if you’re into earthy fragrances like I am.
  • New Books or Games: I treated myself to Finch Pro but also bought a lovely cozy game called Cozy Grove. I enjoy purchasing books from
  • Hobby Supplies: Because who doesnā€™t need new art supplies for that latest passion project? Or gorgeous outfits for your tennis outings?
  • Prepare Yourself a Favorite Recipe or let your local boba shop do the hard work and treat yourself to a gourmet bevvie.

In the end, savoring your journey while treating yourself will keep the self-care train rolling!
